Allegheny Hills Golf Course is located in the northern foothills
of the Allegheny Mountains, 2 miles west of Rushford on Hardy's Corners Road (County Road 7B)
Golf’s ancient beginnings were founded on the Scottish, English and Irish sea-sides. These lands were treeless, windswept and full of high grassy dunes, tufted mounds and tangled roughs.
They were truly the strips of earth that linked the land to the sea.
As the popularity of golf has grown over the years, it also came to be cherished in the United States, Western New York and particularly in the Allegheny region. Henry Bruckert had a dream of turning farmland into a golf course and Allegheny Hills Golf Course was open for play in 1960.
This was the first course open to the general public in our area.
In the early 1960’s, touring pros such as Bruce Devlin, Doug Sanders, Mason Rudolph and Tony Jacklin came to play exhibition golf on the then 9-hole course. Jacklin was fresh from his recent win at the British Open. These four were joined by local pros Steve Peach, Angie Alberico and Rolf Bruckert. Mark McCormick had started International Marketing Group - IMG - in 1960 after realizing the potential of sports in the television age. Arranging for these pros to play at Allegheny Hills was part of McCormick’s effort to introduce golf to the general population of the United States. McCormick signed Arnold Palmer as IMG’s first client; in the 1990’s,
Tiger Woods would choose IMG to be his first agency.
The course was purchased in 1990 by one of Henry’s sons, Conrad. In 1995, the golf course was expanded to 18 holes and is modeled after a Scottish links course with 9 holes out and 9 holes
back in.
Allegheny Hills Golf Course remained in the Bruckert family for a number of years and was successfully operated by Conrad and his wife, Donna, who managed the 19th hole until 2011. At that time, ownership was transferred to Allegheny Hills, LLC - a group of business persons all with strong ties and roots in Western New York. The new owners are committed to continuing the tradition of excellence established over 50 years ago by the Bruckert family.
We invite you to come explore the wonder and beauty of the Allegheny region - maybe play a little golf while you’re here!
